Are you ready?
Don’t feel like reading? I’ve turned this newsletter into a podcast (9:05).
**Highly recommend listening**
First up, I’ve got two pieces of news
Upcoming Meetup: Why UX Falls Short in The Age of AI: Redefining Interaction Models
I'm excited to announce that I'll be speaking at the upcoming QLD AI Meetup.
I'll delve into the current state of AI interaction design, explore emerging strategies, and discuss the implications for the future of UX.
When: 30th October
Where: The Precinct, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
RSVP: Link to attend
New Resource: The Ultimate Guide For Designing AI Systems
In addition to the Meetup, I'm also excited to share that I'm currently developing "The Ultimate Guide For Designing AI Systems." This comprehensive resource will provide designers with the best practices needed to create intuitive and impactful AI-driven experiences.
Sam Altman: Superintelligence in a Few Thousand Days
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, in a recent post painted a picture of a future transformed by the power of artificial intelligence.
He believes we are on the cusp of the Intelligence Age, where AI will enable humanity to achieve feats previously considered unimaginable.
Altman's optimism stems from the success of deep learning, AI has proven its ability to continue to learn and improve with more data and computing power (with no limit in sight).
He envisions a world where AI-powered personal assistants handle complex tasks, scientific breakthroughs become commonplace:
“Although it will happen incrementally, astounding triumphs – fixing the climate, establishing a space colony, and the discovery of all of physics – will eventually become commonplace.”
While acknowledging potential disruptions, particularly in the job market, Altman remains confident that AI will ultimately lead to greater prosperity and create new opportunities for everyone.
Why it Matters
Altman's perspective is particularly noteworthy given his position at the forefront of AI development. He predicts that:
"we will have superintelligence in a few thousand days" which underscores the rapid pace of AI advancement.
This piece serves as a call to embrace the possibilities of the Intelligence Age, while also recognising the need to navigate its challenges responsibly.
For the reader, it offers a glimpse into a future where AI could unlock unprecedented levels of human potential and societal progress.
Can Ive and Altman's AI Device Fix What the iPhone Broke?
Jony Ive, celebrated for his design work at Apple, is collaborating with OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, on a new AI-powered device.
The goal is to develop a computing experience that is "less socially disruptive than the iPhone." With plans to raise up to $1.46 billion in funding, the project has received ample funding.
Why it Matters
The collaboration between Jony Ive, renowned for creating iconic products like the iPhone and OpenAI, arguably the most influential company in AI, is worth noting.
By leveraging Ive's design principles and OpenAI's AI capabilities, the new device could address the shortcomings of earlier attempts and provide a more valuable and user-friendly experience.
"Sorry I'm Late!" - ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode Rolls Out to All Plus and Teams Users
OpenAI is finally expanding access to its much-anticipated Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) for ChatGPT, offering a more natural and personalised AI interaction.
Initially teased in May, and following a limited release in July, AVM is now rolling out to all ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers.
AVM now supports smoother and faster conversations and can even say "Sorry I'm late" in over 50 languages, a lighthearted nod to the feature's delayed release.
Why it Matters
As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, the ability to converse naturally with AI, complete with customisation and emotional understanding, will be crucial.
The release of this feature comes on the heels of OpenAI successfully raising an additional $8 billion in funding, with the company reportedly turning down billions more in excess investment offers.

HubSpot Unveils AI Agent Platform, Redefining the Future of Work
Dharmesh Shah, HubSpot's CTO, showcased the rapid progress of AI agents at INBOUND.
He launched agent.ai, HubSpot's professional network for AI agents, and Agent Builder, a no-code tool for creating AI agents.
Shah envisions AI agents as future digital teammates, automating routine tasks and boosting human potential.
Why it Matters
Shah’s been a big proponent of AI, splashing millions on AI related domain names and building proof of concept tools in Hubspot.
The impressive adoption rate of agent.ai, with more than 47,000 users already utilising the agents do competitive research, keyword research and image generation.
The rising adoption of AI agents indicates that businesses leveraging this technology will gain a competitive advantage through streamlined operations, increased productivity, and the ability to focus on tasks that require human creativity and strategic thinking.
Europe's Fragmented AI Rules Risk Billions in Lost GDP, Warns Industry
In an open letter, major companies like Meta, SAP and Spotify, along with leading research institutions are urging European policymakers to create a unified regulatory framework for AI.
They argue that the current fragmented regulatory landscape is hindering AI innovation in Europe, particularly in the areas of open-source models and multimodal models.
Why it Matters
Inconsistent regulations are preventing companies from fully investing in AI within Europe, potentially leading to missed economic and technological opportunities.
Europe risks losing its share of the estimated 10% global GDP boost that Generative AI could provide.
Moreover, the lack of clarity threatens Europe's ability to cultivate AI that reflects its unique cultural and linguistic diversity.
Harmonised regulations are crucial for Europe to remain competitive in the global AI race.
Microsoft Study: 31% Less Time Spent on Emails
A recent study conducted by Microsoft, involving 6,317 employees across 58 companies, reveals how AI is transforming the way we work.
Key findings demonstrate that AI, through tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot, is improving productivity and collaboration.
Why It Matters
As AI adoption continues to grow, we can expect to see even greater improvements in efficiency, collaboration, and the overall employee experience.
31% less time spent reading emails
16% less time spent in meetings
52% drop in the duration of Word sessions
We’re finally seeing the productivity gains promised by the AI hype.
Cameron Joins Stability AI to Usher in New Era of Visual Storytelling
James Cameron, director of Avatar and Titanic, joins the board of Stability AI, creators of Stable Diffusion.
Cameron sees the convergence of generative AI and CGI as the "next wave" in visual media creation.
This move comes as Hollywood navigates the potential of AI, with studios both embracing and expressing concerns over the technology.
Why it matters
Cameron's involvement with Stability AI signals a shift in how influential filmmakers perceive and engage with AI.
It suggests that the film industry is increasingly recognising the transformative power of AI, particularly in the realm of visual effects and storytelling.
